Snacks are a very important part of a healthy diet. They provide fuel to keep us energized for the day ahead. Snacks should be chosen carefully so they don't become the source of temptation. Most people get through the day with little or no snacks, but for those that overeat it can become a real problem. In this article I will give some tips that will help you to choose the right snacks, and how to avoid snacking as much as possible.
A healthy snack is usually a small portion of dried fruit usually eaten between meals. Snacks also come in many different varieties such as canned fruits and other processed foods, and even things made from whole natural ingredients at home. One of my favorites are potato chips, but you can make your own healthy snack by using either pretzels, crackers or applesauce. Another great snack are cookies, but if you bake your own you can use oatmeal instead of sugar to help cut down on the calories.
Another snack very popular in Kerala is fried or roasted peanuts which can be found all over Kerala. The traditional method of preparing peanuts is by roasting them which gives them a very nutty flavor, and they go well with tea as well. Other healthy snacks include mangoes, papadoms, pistachios, and walnuts, and these are all easy to prepare and serve as a meal.
