A number of individuals are now becoming interested in green tea as an alternative treatment to diabetes and cancer. In fact there are a growing number of medical practitioners that are rethinking their prior beliefs regarding green tea and are recommending it for use as a complementary therapy in addition to existing therapies. Green tea has been used for thousands of years and has been credited with having health benefits for just about everybody. It has certainly to some degree been proven to slow down the progression of diabetes and it may very well be able to prevent the onset of cancer in the stomach and colon area.
Green tea, when taken with glucose, seems to be able to moderately control type 2 diabetes. The test group for this particular study was given a total of 9 cups of green tea per day and the results were not all that spectacular. This is probably because of the small size of the sample size, but the researchers did find that the people in the control group who took their regular glucose control had a slight increase in their HDL (good cholesterol) levels. HDL is typically considered to be a good cholesterol and these levels generally reflect a healthy heart. It is also fair to assume that consuming green tea would aid to prevent premature death among people with type 2 diabetes.
Cancer researchers have recently been researching the effect of green tea on patients that have already been diagnosed with cancer. One of the tests that these researchers have conducted is a test group that drank only non-tea drinkers. The results of this study showed that the test group that drank only non-tea drinkers had a much lower incidence of the disease than the control group.
