A Gluten-Free Diet


Gluten free diet is a must for people with gluten intolerance. A person with this condition has an immune reaction in the small intestines to gluten, which can cause damaging effects on the body. The gluten that causes this reaction is present in wheat and rye and barley. It is important to note that there are many foods which are free from gluten but not free from gluten protein.

Celiac disease, wheat and rye and barley allergy, and non-coeliac gluten intolerance are all treated by a gluten-free diet. These conditions are regarded as forms of gluten allergy (gluten intolerance), which can lead to serious consequences on the health of the person concerned. While both celiac and non-coeliac gluten allergy may cause damage to the small intestines, celiac disease is an autoimmune medical condition linked with several other serious health consequences, including anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, kidney stones, and osteoporosis. The onset of these complications can happen at any age; however, they most often appear in children. Gluten free diet is very important for patients with celiac or gluten allergy. Moreover, it is very important for pregnant women and children to avoid foods that may potentially cause some degree of harm to their bodies.

There are many companies that offer a gluten-free diet which has no relation with any specific ailment or medical condition. For example, many people use these diets to get rid of fats that are present in certain unhealthy food items, like junk fast foods and fatty snacks. The ingredients of these so-called "gluten-free" meals are usually natural (compared to those of traditionally "gluten-filled" foods) and some of them may even contain ingredients that naturally contain gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and other related grains.
